Mary Ellen Timpe, age 71 of Shullsburg, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017 at Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. She was born June 2, 1945 the daughter of John Lloyd and Margaret Eileen (Fisher) Mulcahy. Mary Ellen attended St. Matthew’s Grade School and Shullsburg High School graduating in 1963. She took her first job with Farmers and Merchants Bank in Shullsburg. In 1970, Mary Ellen moved to Galena where in 1972 she began working for the Galena State Bank for 29 years before retiring from banking in 2001. She later worked for the Shullsburg Veterinary Service. In the early 1990’s she moved back to her hometown of Shullsburg and made her home with her mother where she has resided since.
Mary Ellen is survived by one sister: Karen (Charles) Kittoe; one brother: Dennis (Cheryl) Mulcahy; one sister-in-law: Mary Alice Mulcahy; nine nieces and nephews; and sixteen great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Charles “Rich” and John Robert “Bob” Mulcahy; and one sister-in-law: Susan Kay Mulcahy.
Mary Ellen was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking and baking, doing puzzles, playing cards, and taking trips to the casino. Mary Ellen will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church (344 N. Judgement Street, Shullsburg) with Rev. Sudhakar Devarapu officiating. Burial will be in St. Matthew’s Cemetery. A visitation will be held Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church.
