Mary Suzanne Douglass, age 90 of Janesville passed away from natural causes on Friday, April 13, 2018 at Mercyhealth Hospital & Trauma Center. She was born on the family farm in Seymour Township near Darlington,  on Nov. 25, 1927, the only child of Casper and Frances (Davies) Wiegel. Mary attended Darlington High School. She married Thomas Max Ward in 1944 and together they had eight children. She later married Richard Douglass in 1989 and he predeceased her on Nov. 24, 2010. Mary lived for over 30 years in the Arcadia, Fla. area before moving back to the Janesville area in 2012 to be closer to her family. 
In her younger years, Mary worked at the Roost in Darlington and the Oasis Restaurant in Janesville. Mary was a very active, energetic, and independent woman her whole life. She was an avid Packer fan, and enjoyed dancing, clogging, bowling, golfing, and attending rodeos and bull riding competitions. Mary was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who always put her family first. She constantly stayed in touch with all of them through her daily posts on Facebook. Mary was very sharp lady, remembering dates, names, and keeping up with all the news and activities that were going on in her family.
She is survived by her children, who will miss her dearly: Louise McGranahan of Darlington, Lawrence (Shelby) Ward of Juda, Lorraine (Harlan) Elzen of Darlington, JoAnne (Steven) McQuaid of Darlington, Irma (Gary) Slawson of Janesville, Rita (Hal) Davidson of Janesville, and Karl (Dianne) Ward of Milton; her daughter-in-law: Judy Ward of Lakeland, Fla.; She is further survived by 23 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren; other extended family, and her faithful cat: Victoria. In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by her son: Thomas Max Ward who died on June 20, 2014.
A Celebration honoring Mary’s life will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Juda Community Center in Juda. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Janesville.
