Nellie Schwartz, 91, was born in Vernon County, Wisconsin on October 11, 1931, to Alvah and Morgania (McKinstry) Hayden. She died peacefully on May 31, 2023, in Sacramento, California, with her family at her side.
She spent her youth in the Kickapoo River Valley, making many happy memories, and was a 1948 graduate of Gays Mills High School. Her pursuit of a nursing education in LaCrosse, Wisconsin led to her meeting the love of her life, Von E. Schwartz. They were married in 1950 at the Gays Mills Congregational Church and moved to Minneapolis for Von’s new teaching career.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in her name may be made to The Foundation For Blind Children, 1234 East Northern Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85020 or to the charity of your choice.
