Ralph J. Wiegel, age 64 of Darlington, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 28, 2018 in Calamine. He was born April 1954 in Darlington the son of Urban and Mary (Scheckel) Wiegel. Ralph attended Shullsburg High School. He was united in marriage to Diana L. Smith in Darlington. Ralph lived in the Darlington area his entire life. He worked at Stork Tire Service for a number of years and later at Janlin Plastics in Mt. Horeb where he met his wife. Most recently, Ralph managed Tanglewood Hunting Ranch in rural Mineral Point.
Ralph attended Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington. He enjoyed bowling and participated in many leagues throughout the years. He was exceptionally proud of the youth hunts he arranged for the disabled. Ralph was an avid sportsman and enjoyed everything outdoors, especially tending to his vegetable garden. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
Ralph is survived by his step-daughter: Robin (Eric) Jerdee of Browntown; his siblings: Rita Salathe of Monona, Jerry (Karen) Wiegel of Platteville, Adele Crary of Madison, Linda Scheuerell of Monona, Irene (Tom) Burris of Mineral Point, Chris (Jim) Perry of Madison, and Rose (Greg) Schulte of rural Darlington; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Diana on March 11, 2008.
A family remembrance will be shared at 11:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church (104 E. Harriet Street, Darlington) with Rev. Joji Reddy officiating. A visitation will be held Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. A visitation will also be held Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church. The Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is serving the family. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Ralph’s name.
