Ronald G. “Ronnie” Signer, age 75 of Shullsburg, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington. He was born Sept. 16, 1942 in Cuba City, the son of Wallace and Lucille (Fowler) Signer. Ronnie grew up in Benton until moving to Gratiot where he attended Gratiot High School. He married Carolyn Hanfeld and settled in the Gratiot area where they raised their four children, and he co-owned and operated Signer Auto Body. Later, he moved to Shullsburg where he continued operating Signer Auto Body and resided with his life-partner: Shelley Mueller, who he has spent the past 34 years of his life with. Together, they raised their two sons.
Ronnie is survived by his life-partner Shelley at home; his mother: Lucille Signer of Gratiot; his children: Greg (Kathy Cole) Signer of rural Cuba City, Carla (Dan) Treuthardt of Argyle, Brenda (Greg) Glendenning of Darlington, Sheila (Bill) Bredeson of Fayette, Ryan Mueller and Adam Mueller both of Shullsburg; seven grandchildren: Danielle, Jessica, Ryan, Jason, Hunter, Casey, and Beau; one brother: Gary (Sharon) Signer of Gratiot; and one sister: Sharon Sigafus of Gratiot. He was preceded in death by his father: Wallace; his brother-in-law: Herbie Sigafus; two nephews: Mike Sigafus and Matthew Signer (in infancy); and one niece: Samantha Mueller.
Ronnie cherished his family more than anything and the time they spent together. He was known to lend a helping hand to his family and friends whenever they needed him. Ronnie enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Nixon House in Gratiot and the Wheel In in Shullsburg, drinking coffee and chatting. He had the most infectious and distinct laugh that will never be forgotten. Ronnie will be remembered for his jokes and witty sense of humor. Ronnie had a passion for restoring and collecting cars, especially the classics: T-Birds and Corvettes. He spent his free time hunting for morels and always enjoyed fishing. Ronnie will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Erickson Funeral Home (235 N. Judgement St., Shullsburg) with Rev. Glenn Andes of Evangelical Free Church in Gratiot officiating. Burial will be in Benton Primitive Methodist Cemetery in Benton. A visitation was held Wednesday, April 11, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home. A visitation will also be held on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com.
