William M. “Bill” Curry, age 89 of rural Darlington, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018 at his home in rural Darlington. He was born Aug. 14, 1928 in Lamont, the son of William and Hannah (Pattinson) Curry. Bill attended and graduated from Darlington High School in 1947 and later went on to attend the University of Wisconsin Short Course. He was united in marriage to Rosalie C. Hastert on Oct. 14, 1950 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington. Bill lived in Darlington most of his life where he farmed.  He built homes in the Darlington area for 15 years, building over 60 homes in the area. He later worked at Lands End in Dodgeville for a number of years.
Bill is survived by two daughters: Catherine “Kitty” (Steve) McGowan and Mary Ann (Terry) Wilhelmson both of Darlington; seven grandchildren: Andy (Laura) McGowan of Cazenovia, Doug (Carinne) McGowan and Pat (Elizabeth) McGowan both of Darlington, Matt (Kayla) McGowan and Travis (Emily) Wilhelmson both of Mt. Horeb, Joel (Lindsay) Wilhelmson of Darlington, and Nora (Kelby) Mack of Lodi; 20 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law: Mary Conley of Tomahawk and Mary Jo Hastert of Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Rosalie in 2008; his son Kevin Curry in 1990; five brothers and one sister.
Bill was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington. He was also a proud member of the Darlington Country Club, and served on the Darlington School Board. Bill was very proud to be from Darlington and loved to be involved in Darlington Public School sporting events and other interscholastic events. He was an avid sports fan and always enjoyed watching the Darlington Redbirds, Wisconsin Badgers, Green Bay Packers, and Milwaukee Brewers. He enjoyed spending time outside golfing and tending to his miniature horses. Bill cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren raising sheep to show at the Lafayette County Fair. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
A Memorial Mass was held Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church (104 E. Harriet St., Darlington) where Rev. Joji Reddy officiated. Burial was in Holy Rosary Cemetery. A visitation was held Monday, Aug. 13, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Main St., Darlington) and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the church.
