William was enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, and was honorably discharged in 1963. He earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemistry from UW-LaCrosse, and went on to pursue a Masters degree at the University of Idaho-Moscow.
He married his first wife, Donna (Dawson) Jackson in 1962, and the two welcomed their child, Gillian Pomplun. Donna and William divorced in 1969, and William married Jean Swanson, his high school sweet heart, on June 18, 1971. The two had two girls, Patricia Sang (1973) and Nancy (Joo Hee) (1975).
He began his employment career in St. Paul/Minneapolis with Honeywell, before landing his forever job with the Kimberly-Clark Corporation in Neenah, Wisc., where he worked for over thirty years, before retiring in 1999.
From there, he and his wife Jean retired to the Seven Lakes and Southern Pines areas of North Carolina, where they lived their remaining years. William loved to golf, and enjoyed the year-round opportunity to hit the links that North Carolina offered. After the loss of his beloved wife Jean, and when declining health prevented him from enjoying his favorite pas-time of golf, he agreed to relocate to Minneapolis where he could be closer to his daughters and grandchildren, and his brother Robert Pomplun.
William will forever be remembered by his many family members and descendants as a man who loved to golf, made his own golf clubs, and loved his wife and children dearly.
