On city employee pay

Resident Michael Mayo made statements in a letter to the editor last week that are not accurate.

Mr. Mayo lists two employees who make more than $100,000 salary. The City of Platteville has no employee making over $100,000 salary.

Michael Mayo also stated that the “Director of Personnel” makes “over five figures.”  The City does not have a Director of Personnel.

The costs of having a City Manager’s position are less in 2012 than they were in 2010.

In 2013, the City of Platteville will be combining the Utility Billing Department and the Finance Department.  The City is planning to hire a Director of Administration and discontinue the position of Utility Billing Supervisor.  This consolidates departments and sets the City up to absorb positions through attrition in the future.

If anyone has questions about City staffing or employee compensation, you are welcome to contact the City Manager.

The Platteville Journal will print most letters to the editor, regardless of the opinion presented. The Journal reserves the right to edit material that is libelous or otherwise offensive to community standards and to shorten letters the Journal feels are excessively long. All letters must be signed and the signature must appear on the printed letter, along with a contact number or email for verification. Some submitted letters may not be published due to space constraints. “Thank you” letters will not be printed. All letters and columns represent the views of the writers and not necessarily the views of the Platteville Journal.
