Ava Graney, P, Platteville Mound City Softball team

Junior-to-be Ava Graney (2–2) went 2–0 last Sunday with pitching victories over Highland and the host Blackhawks at the six-team Prairie du Chien Jamboree.

Graney struck out five and allowed just two runs, one earned, on four hits and two walks in seven innings to lead the Mound City summer softball team to a 3–2 victory over Highland. Freshman-to-be Delaney Johnson drew a one-out walk to load the bases then Graney slashed a two-run single to aid her own cause and break the scoreless tie.

Highland made it a game with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom half of the fourth, but Graney induced Highland lead off hitter Estee Goodwiler to fly out to left field with runners on first and third. The Platteville hurler then retired nine of the final 10 batters she faced to close out the win.

Graney also earned the win in Platteville's 13–7 win over Prairie du Chien in the third and final game of the afternoon after allowing two unearned runs on three hits in four innings pitched. She also led off Platteville’s seven-run fifth inning and later scored when Nies reached on an error. Graney then added another RBI single to cap Platteville’s big inning. She finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI in the win.
