Bulldog cross country teams finish strong in Viroqua

BOSCOBEL - Both the boys and girls cross country teams made their presence known among tough competition on Thursday, September 5 at the Viroqua Invitational meet held at the Verona County Fairgrounds.  The boys finished as champions in a ten-team field and the girls finished third in a strong eleven-team field.

The Bulldog boys placed five runners among the top 20 and seven in the top 40 on the way to first place, outpacing four larger school districts in Holmen, West Salem, La Crosse Central, and Sparta. 

Sophomore Levi Glasbrenner finished third overall to lead the Bulldogs with a time of 17:39.9.  Fellow sophomore Ben Bohringer finished sixth with a time of 17:45.7.  Juniors Blake Sander (13), Evan Belz (18) and senior David Martinez (20) rounded out the top twenty of 118 individual runners.  Two more sophomores, Parker Steele (32) and Brady Smith (36) finished off the very impressive Bulldog finish.

Girls Finish Third

The Boscobel girls finished in third place, behind champion Holmen and runner-up La Crosse Central.  The girls team was led by sophomore Abri Brown, who finished third overall with a time of 21:19.6 and junior Ellie Jillson, who finished in eighth with a time of 21:53.9.  Two more sophomores, Avery Brown and Maddie Fritz finished impressively at 21stand 22nd.  Rounding out the Bulldog effort were solid finishes by juniors Britney Glasbrenner, Makayla Fritz, and Katlyn Seeley and sophomore Clare Manning. 

Ryan Zimpel Memorial Cross Country Meet

In warm and challenging conditions, the cross-country team competed at a high level on their home course, Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 10. The Bulldogs opened their home meet schedule with the Ryan Zimpel Memorial meet, held at the course bearing his name on the Zimpel farm outside of Boscobel. 

For Boscobel, it was another big night as both the boys and girls team took first place titles in the twelve team invitational meet.

The boys team once again, were led by sophomores Levi Glasbrenner and Ben Bohringer, who finished 3rd and 4th overall.  For the boys, seven runners placed in the top 17. Evan Belz (10), Parker Steele (11), Mitchell Davis (12), David Martinez (15), and Blake Sander (17). In the JV race, sophomore Brady Smith gave a strong performance, winning the individual JV title.

For the girls, Abri Brown led the way finishing second overall.  The Bulldog girls placed four runners in the top seventeen. Ellie Jillson (8), Maddie Fritz (15), and Avery Brown (17).  In the JV Girls race, the Bulldogs had the top three individual finishers, Britney Glasbrenner (1), Ava Grassel (2), and Trinity Steele (3).
