Varsity earns

season’s first victories

On Saturday, the Bulldogs hosted a Varsity tournament involving eight teams. The Bulldogs finished in sixth place, but during the long day the team was able to gain victory in a pair of matches, their first such victories of the young season.

Boscobel defeated La Farge, 2 games to 1 in their first match of the day. Head Coach Cas Kirschbaum said of the match, “This was the best I have seen the girls play so far, and a huge improvement from the Onalaska tournament.  The team showed lots of fight in the third and deciding set.”

Later in the day, the Bulldogs defeated Ithaca for their second win of the day.  Perhaps just as significant as the two victories, Kirschbaum felt the team was competitive in all seven of their matches for the day.

“We have found a consistent lineup and strength with that lineup shows.” she said.

For the tournament, Lancaster finished first, Wauzeka-Steuben second, Bangor third, in fourth place was the River Valley Varsity Reserve team, and in fifth place was Brookwood.  Boscobel earned sixth place with its two victories, while La Farge and Ithaca rounded out the final two spots in the eight-team field.
