PREP TRACK & FIELD (Six Rivers Conference Meet)   

PLATTEVILLE – A pair of league records fell as the Benton/Scales Mound/Shullsburg boys’ and girls’ track and field teams captured the team titles at the Six Rivers Conference Meet for the seventh year in a row.

Junior Matt Davis broke one of the records and won three individual conference titles to lead the Zephyrs to the boys’ title with 161 points, and freshman Kayci Martensen added a new conference record and also won three events to lead the Lady Zephyrs to the girls’ team title with 159 points at the 2019 Six Rivers Conference Meet held at UW-Platteville on Monday, May 13.

River Ridge edged Cassville/Potosi, 137 to 135.5, to take second in the boys’ standings, while the Comets (127) finished second ahead of the Timberwolves (122) in the girls’ standings. Belmont placed sixth as a team in both the boys’ and girls’ meets with 41 and 47 points, respectively, and Black Hawk came in seventh in each meet with 28 points apiece. 

All eight league teams crowned a conference champion in at least one event, while of the teams won titles in both the boys’ and girls’ meet. BSMS led the way with 10 conference champions. Cassville/Potosi claimed seven titles, Monticello crowned six champions and River Ridge won five at the meet.

Matt Davis leapt away with the title in the boys’ high jump setting a new conference, tri-op and school record with his winning mark of 6’6”. He raced to titles in the 200-meter dash (23.15) and the 300-meter intermediate hurdles (42.61), and placed second in the long jump (20’7”).

Sophomore Chandler Kelly won the 800-meter run (2:11.27) and teamed with Caleb O’Neill, Evan Graves and Ben Vandigo to win the 1,600-meter relay (3:44.08). Vandigo, Graves and O’Neill also joined with Sam Townsend to win the 400-meter relay (47.78).

Black Hawk senior Colby Argall earned the title in the triple jump (39’9.5”) and placed fourth in the long jump (19’5.5”) for the Warriors.

Junior Brady Johnston led the way for the Braves by placing second in the 3,200 run (10:41.30) and combining with Seth Peters, Christian Fure and Andrew Weber to take second in the 3,200 relay (9:07.02).

Martensen swept the distance races on Monday, winning the 1,600 in a conference record time of 5:17.73 and adding titles in the 800 (2:20.17) and the 3,200 (12:11.70). Senior Trinity Law won a title in the girls’ high jump (4’10”) for the Zephyrs.

The Braves’ 3,200-meter relay team of Lori Moctezuma-Zayas, Abby Reuter, Lizzy Haag and Mattea Kramer ran away with the conference crown in 10:59.70, and the Lady Warriors’ 1,600-meter relay team of Emily Triem, Grace Neff, Kaylee Marty and Natalie Leuzinger won a conference title in 4:29.14.

The 2019 WIAA Division 3 regional track and field meet will be held at Darlington High School on Monday, May 20, beginning at 4 p.m. The top four competitors in each event advance to sectional competition, which will be held at Bangor High School on Thursday, May 23, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
