GAME OF THE WEEK (July 7–July 13)
SUMMER BASEBALL: Southwest Wisconsin Summer League
With the passing of the Fourth of July weekend, summer is halfway gone. The Southwest Wisconsin summer baseball league is also coming down the back stretch of its six-week season. The eight-team league has four games this Friday and four more Wednesday, July 13. The league will wrap up its summer season Friday, July 15. Here are a look at this league’s remaining scheduled games.
Friday, July 8 (all games at 6:30 p.m.)
Highland at Platteville: The Platteville Merchants are 7–1 this summer and 5–1 in the SW summer league.
Lancaster at Barneveld: Lancaster is 5–2 this summer (2–2 in SW summer league) after wins over Fennimore (12–8 last Wednesday) and Cuba City (14–3 las Friday). Lancaster went 3–0 to win a tournament at Muscoda on the weekend of June 17–19.

AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL:
Post 308 American Legion varsity baseball tournament, July 8–10
Soldiers Grove will host a six-team round-robin American Legion baseball tournament next weekend at the Village Ball Park. North Crawford will host the tournament, which also includes teams from Boscobel, Prairie du Chien, Pecatonica, Nekoosa and Genoa–DeSoto–Stoddard. Friday’s opening-round games are Pecatonica vs. Bosocbel at 4 p.m., followed by Genoa–De Soto–Stoddard at 6 p.m. and North Crawford vs. Nekoosa at 8 p.m. All games will be seven innings and the 10-run mercy rule will be enforced.
HOME TALENT LEAGUE BASEBALL:
There are four weeks left in the Home Talent Sunday League regular season. As the playoff chase heats up a pair of area teams will be in action this Sunday. Here’s a look at this week’s Western Section slate.
