Kisamore, Braves beat Pirates in overtime
BELMONT — Rebounding from a tough loss to #4 North Crawford the previous week, #8 Belmont used Wyatt Temperly’s three touchdown passes and Tyler Kisamore’s three total scores to rally for a thrilling 36–28 overtime home victory over De Soto on Oct. 3.
In the extra session, Kisamore powered in from four yards out and added another successful conversion run to provide the final score.
The Belmont defense then stopped the Pirates (4–2, 4–2 R&V8) on their overtime possession to close out the victory.
The Braves displayed resilience and poise, erasing a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter before sealing the win in overtime.
“This was a great high school football game to be a part of and our guys showed a lot of grit and heart,” said Belmont head coach Brandon Wiese. “Overall, we played a pretty clean game limiting turnovers to none. We were also able to recover a fumble and turn it into some points which is always a momentum boost. Our defense also made a great stop in OT on fourth down with inches to go which displayed their will to win. It was a good team effort overall.”
The Braves struck first in the opening quarter when Temperly connected with Kisamore for a 19-yard touchdown on fourth down, followed by a Kisamore two-point conversion run for an 8–6 lead.
In the second quarter, Temperly found Cody Kletecka for a 26-yard score on third down, though the conversion attempt was denied, as Belmont led 14–12 at halftime.
The Braves were then held scoreless in the third quarter as the Pirates built a 28–14 advantage heading into the final 12 minutes of regulation.
Temperly hit Chase Riechers for a 7-yard touchdown on third down, but Griffin McNett’s two-point run was stopped short. The Braves closed the remaining 8-point gap with a methodical drive capped by Kisamore’s 8-yard rushing touchdown on third down with 29 seconds left on the clock. Temperly converted the two-point attempt, tying the game and forcing an extra period, setting the stage for Kisamore’s game-winning in OT.
Temperly finished the night 13-for-21 passing for 154 yards and three touchdowns, adding 22 rushing yards and a crucial two-point run.
Kisamore dominated on both sides of the ball, rushing for 152 yards and two touchdowns on 35 carries, catching a scoring pass, and amassing 12 tackles, including a sack and a forced fumble.
Kletecka caught three passes for 42 yards and a touchdown and punted for 79 yards, while McNett contributed 38 receiving yards and four tackles on defense.
Bradley Lancaster was pivotal on defense at 12 tackles, while Cayden North led the all Belmont defenders with 13 tackles.
Belmont hit the road for their regular season finale at Monticello on Oct. 10. The Ponies (0–7, 0–6) remained winless following a 62–32 loss to Wisconsin Heights.
