Fever heats up against Ridgeway

SHULLSBURG/BENTON designated hitter Kyle Hoppman (#9) drove this pitch down the line for a RBI-double in the Fevers 11-1 win over Ridgeway in a Home Talent League baseball action on Sunday, May 21.

    The Fever’s offense broke out in a pair of Home Talent League baseball victory over Ridgeway last week.
    Shullsburg/Benton opened Night League play by bashing the host Cardinals, 20-7, in five innings at Ridgeway on Thursday, May 18; and the Fever struck again at home on Sunday, May 21, by downing the Cardinals, 11-1, in a seven-inning Western Section South Division contest.
    Jacob Green smashed a pair of three-run home runs and finished 4-for-4 at the plate with eight runs driven in and four runs, and he also earned the win on the mound after allowing just two runs and striking out five batters over four and a third innings of relief work for the Fever (1-0 NL).
    Connor Crotty went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, three RBI and four runs scored, and Joe Cox was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and three runs for the Fever, who scored five times in the second inning and eight times in the third to rally for a 5-4 first-inning deficit.
    On Sunday, brothers Conner and Justin Crotty went a combined 5-for-7 with three RBI and four runs scored to lead Shullsburg/Benton (2-1 SL) over Ridgeway. Conner was 3-for-4 with two runs and a RBI, while Justin was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBI.
    Cox went 4-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run, and Kyle Hoppman added a double, two runs and two RBI for the hosts.
    Nathan Hendrickson (2-1) earned the completed-game win after allowing a run on six hits with three Ks and one walk. He helped his own cause by driving in two runs.
    The Fever (3-1 overall) have two Sunday League games over Memorial Day weekend playing at Muscoda on Sunday, May 28, and hosting Argyle on Monday, May 29. Both games are set to start at 1 p.m.

    Wiota’s Night League and Sunday League games with Hollandale were both postponed last week. The teams have tentatively rescheduled their Night League game at Wiota Park for Thursday, May 25, at 7:30 p.m. No make-up date was announced at press time for Sunday’s game at Wiota.
    Wiota (2-0 overall & SL) has a pair of Sunday League games over Memorial Day weekend playing at Oregon on Sunday, May 28, and hosting Ridgeway on Monday, May 29. Both games are set for 1 p.m.
