ROONEY JANECKE drove in two runs with this first-inning double, and he added two more runs batted in and another double in Wiotas 6-1 win over Argyle on July 15.

ARGYLE – Wiota pitcher Jeff Solberg tossed eight scoreless innings en route to a complete-game victory and catcher Rooney Janecke smashed a pair of doubles and drove in four runs to lead the visiting Indians over the Argyle Beavers, 6-1, in a Home Talent League Western Section South Division clash on Saturday, July 15.
Wiota remains atop the South Section at 9-4 following the win, while the Beavers slip into a third-place tie with Blanchardville in the division with a 7-7 mark.
With just three games remaining in the regular season, the Indians have locked up a playoff berth for the 24th consecutive season. Last season, Wiota won the Western Section crown and competed in the HTL Final Four.
Janecke doubled home Casey Schroeder and Kory Tuescher in the top of the first inning to thrust the Indians into the lead to stay at 2-0, and Solberg made sure that lead stood with a strong effort on the mound the rest of the day.
Arygle outfielder Alec Treuthardt, a former Indian, led off the second inning by lining a pitcher down the right field line for a triple and then took home on a throwing error to make it 2-1. That was the only run the Beavers would manage on the day as Solberg shut them out over the final seven innings.
Janecke added a RBI-double and Tyler Torstenson-Harris followed with a RBI-single in the fifth to extend the Indians’ lead to 4-1, while Schroeder plated Cole McDonald with a sacrifice fly in the sixth and Janecke brought in Hayden Hardyman with a sacrifice fly in the ninth for insurance runs.
Solberg (4-3) gave up just one unearned run on five hits over nine frames and issued three walks with five strikeouts en route to the victory.
Janecke finished 2-for-3 at the plate with four RBI. Torstenson-Harris was 3-for-5 with a triple and a RBI, while Merrill Brunson had a triple and a run scored for Wiota.
Schroeder added a double with a run and a RBI, and Tommy Meier banged out a double for the Indians.
At Argyle, on Thursday, July 13, pitcher Ben Conway tossed a complete-game, five-hit shutout and the Indians scored three runs thanks to a pair of errors in the fourth inning to take down the host Beavers, 3-0, in Night League play.
The Indians (3-3) moved into fourth-place in the South Section with the win, while Argyle slipped to 2-5 in the NL standings.
Conway (3-1) struck out nine batters without issuing a walk and scattered five hits over seven scoreless innings to lead Wiota to victory.
Hayden Hardyman was 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Indians, while Tommy Meier went 2-for-4 and Ben Muhlstein finished 2-for-3 with a double on the night.
Jeff Solberg scored the game’s first run on the first of Argyle’s two errors in the fourth, while Cole McDonald and Hardyman crossed on the plate when Jayson Haldiman’s flyball to centerfield with two down was misplayed by the Beavers’ outfielder to make it 3-0.
With the lead in hand, Conway retired 12 of the final 13 batters he faced to seal the outcome.
Wiota (12-7 overall) has remaining Night League games at Ridgeway on Thursday, July 20, at Blanchardville on Thursday, July 27, and at home against Shullsburg/Benton on Thursday, Aug. 3. All three games are set to start at 7:30 p.m.
The Indians will have a make-up Sunday League game at Wiota Park against Hollandale on Saturday, July 22, and they will face Blanchardville back at home on Sunday, July 23. Wiota closes the regular season hosting Shullsburg/Benton on Sunday, July 30. All three games will start at 1 p.m.
