Losing streak broken for Trojan girls

The North Crawford softball team defeated River Ridge-Cassville 9-2 to snap a tough losing streak last Friday.

The Trojans were led at the plate by Regan Evers 3-4 with a homerun and four RBIs and Mackenzie Swiggum also 3-4 with three RBIs.

Cheyanna Washburn, Natasha Swiggum, Caitlyn Stevenson, Emily Peterson, Bailey Stevenson and Kylie Cullen all singled.

“It was nice to have everybody hitting the ball again,” North Crawford coach Melany Jelinek said later. “I hope it continues as we head into regional play on Thursday, May 22.”

The Trojans were led on the mound by Mackenzie Swiggum, who recorded four strikeouts and gave up two walks. Caitlyn Stevenson struck out one and walked two in relief for the Trojans.

On Monday, May 19 the Trojans lost to Ithaca 5-3. They were led at the plate by Emily Peterson, who was 2-3 and Cheyanna Washburn, who was 2-4.

In the prior week, North Crawford suffered two tough losses. They were shutout 14-0 by the DeSoto Pirates in four innings on Thursday, May 15. The Trojans also lost an 11-0 shutout to Wauzeka-Steuben in five innings on Tuesday, May 13.
