Hillsboro senior Max Sebranek didn’t win an individual regional title, but he did finish second at 195 pounds to earn a spot in this Saturday’s WIAA Division 3 Necedah sectional tournament.

Sebranek (32–8), who won the 195-pound conference title at the Scenic Ridge and Rivers Conference tournament a week earlier, used a first-round bye and a 6–2 semifinal victory over New Lisbon’s Jay Turner to reach the finals of Saturday’s D3 Hillsboro Regional.

But he suffered a 3–2 upset loss to third-seeded Devin Barry of Brookwood in the 195-pound championship.
Barry (27–13) pushed Sebranek to the limit in the semifinals at the conference tournament before surrendering a takedown in double overtime of a 7–5 loss.

Sebranek then clinched second via rule by virtue of his earlier victory over Turner (33–11), who defeated second-seeded Trevor Von Ruden (23–14) of Cashton in the third-place match.

Sebranek is the only one of Hillsboro’s seven regional wrestlers that advance.

The top two finishers at each weight class advanced to the Necedah Sectional.

Freshman Mitchell Morris finished his season 8–16 after a fourth-place finish at 113.

Sophomore Mitch Beckwith (6–15) went 2–1 and placed fifth at 120.

Senior Tyler Seeley (11–16) also went 2–1 and placed fifth at 152.

Fellow senior Katie Blaha (1–20) lost her opening match and placed fifth at 132.

Sophomore Nolan Hammer (14–13) placed sixth as did fellow sophomore Dylan Thew (7–21).
