NEW LISBON — New Lisbon’s Michaela Vinz proved why she was named the 2013 Scenic Bluffs Pitcher of the Year.

The senior hurler struck out 13 Hillsboro batters without issuing a walk and allowed just one hit in seven innings to lead the host Rockets to a 9–0 victory in the second round of the WIAA Division 4 playoffs last Tuesday night.

Vinz aided her own cause at the plate with two hits in two at-bats, including an RBI double and two runs scored.

Senior Krista Ulrich also went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored for the Rockets, who scored a run in the second and two in the third.

New Lisbon added three in the fourth to take a commanding 6–0 lead, and scored three times in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Senior Elaine Hansen went 2-for-4 and scored two runs.

Samantha Olson and Abby Washetas each doubled and scored in the victory.

Senior C.J. Hofmeister (4–9) took the loss for Hillsboro after allowing nine runs on seven hits in six innings of work. She struck out two and walked one.

Hillsboro finished the season 7–10 overall.

The Tigers open the playoffs with a 3–0 victory at Wonewoc–Center on May 16 after finishing Scenic Bluffs play 6–8.

New Lisbon went on to defeat Cashton, 3–2, in last Thursday’s D4 regional final.

The Rockets were scheduled to face De Soto (16–2) in a D4 sectional semifinal on Tuesday.
