The Hillsboro volleyball program has been a model of consistency under head coach Mark Sullivan.

Sullivan took over an already successful program in 2011, but the Tigers haven’t missed a beat under his tutelage.

A year ago Sullivan led Hillsboro to a 25–10–1 overall record and the program’s fourth consecutive Scenic Bluffs Conference championship with a league record of 13–1.

The Tigers won a regional title with straight set victories over Weston and Cashton, and a five-set win over Wonewoc–Center. Hillsboro’s 2013 season ended in the D4 sectional semifinals with a 3–2 loss to Cochrane–Fountain City.

Expectations are once again high for Sullivan’s Tigers, who opened the season Tuesday at the two-say UW–Oshkosh Tournament.

Hillsboro will open SBC play next Thursday (9/4) at New Lisbon.
Gone are first-team All-SBC outside hitter Sami Levy and honorable mention all-league selections setter Kelsey Skala and outside hitter Macy Mislivecek, but the Hillsboro cupboard is far from empty.

The junior trio of setter Mackenzie Sullivan middle hitter Tasha Mitchell and libero Brittany Borchardt are the building blocks of this year’s team.

Sullivan was a first-team All-SBC choice last year, while Mitchell and Borchardt received honorable mention.

Cross Country will run at Cashton on Friday

The Hillsboro cross country team opened the season Tuesday at Westby. Results were not available at press time.

The Tigers will next compete at the Cashton Invitational on Saturday.

The Hillsboro boys’ team lost a talented senior class led by state qualifiers Logan Rohn and Noah Mayberry. Senior Avery Rueckheim and junior Skyler Fisher will lead this year’s team.

The Lady Tigers didn’t lose a single runner from last year’s team. Seniors Michaela Bach and Adrianna Reese and junior Breanna Beaver will lead the Tigers’ pack this fall.
