SENECA - The Seneca Indian volleyball team won the WIAA Regional Championship by Beating the visiting Highland Cardinals in a four-set match at home on Saturday, Oct. 26.

The set scores for Seneca against Highland were: 25-13, 25-20, 25-27 and 25-10.

Outside hitter Makenna had 23 kills and an ace; Anya Aspenson had 15 kills and a block, while Savanna Wallin had eight kills, a block and an ace.

Delaney Boland had a block, while Ava Payne had five blocks. Setter Nicky had two kills, five aces, and 41 assists.

First-year head coach Jessica Olson acknowledged later that the team was playing well against Highland, but struggled some with serving. That was not Olson’s reaction to her teams play in the match against Wauzeka-Steuben on Thursday.

“Thursday was rough,” Olson said later. She attributed some of the problemsin the Wauzeka-Steuben match to the familiarity the teams have with each other. After all, it was their third meeting in the last month.

Nonetheless, Seneca beat Wauzeka in three sets: 25-16, 25-23 and 25-23.

Senior outside hitter Makenna Greene led the team with 19 kills and four aces.

Anya Aspenson had seven kills, while Savanna Wallin had six kills and three aces. Delaney Boland had three kills and Ava Payne had one kill and two blocks.

Freshman Lindsey Sime had three digs, while freshman libero Grace Check had six digs.
