SHULLSBURG – The #9-ranked Shullsburg/Benton baseball team kicked off a busy week by beating the visiting Belmont Braves, 12-2, in six innings in a Six Rivers West clash at Badger Park on Tuesday, May 2.
    Brooks Tiedeman went 2-for-3 with a double, four runs driven in and two runs scored to lead the Miner-Zephyrs (11-3 overall, 8-1 SWAL) over the Braves (2-11, 2-8).
    Nathan Wedige had a pair of doubles in four at-bats with three RBI and a run scored for the hosts, while Nolan Strang scored three times and Jacob Berendes doubled and drove in two runs for the co-op.
    Brady Wedig had a double and scored a run for the Braves. Jacob Amenda drove in a run for the guests.
    The Miner-Zephyrs dropped a non-conference decision to Warren/Stockton, 8-1, on Wednesday, May 3, in a game played at the Ashford University Field in Clinton Iowa, which is home of the minor league Class A Clinton Lumberkings.
    Shulls/Bent swept a Six Rivers doubleheader against Barneveld at home on Friday, May 5, taking the opener by a score of 6-5 and winning the nightcap by a 12-5 decision.
    The Miner-Zephyrs remain in the hunt for the Six Rivers West title by rallying past River Ridge, 6-2, at Patch Grove on Monday, May 8.
    Alex Wand was 2-for-3 with a RBI against the WarHawks on Wednesday, and he was 2-for-3 with a double in game one against Barneveld.
    Hunter Matye had a double with two RBI and a run scored in the opener against the Golden Eagles, while Wedige went 4-for-5 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored in the nightcap.
    Nathan Mowry was 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and a run scored in game two. Strang went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs, Nick Wagner was 3-for-3 with a RBI and a run, and Tiedeman was 2-for-5 with two runs and a RBI.
    Wagner and Berendes each drove in two runs to lead the co-op over the Timberwolves on Monday. Strang scored twice in the game.
    Chris Trejo (5-1) pitched in four of the five games, posting a 2-1 record after leading Shulls/Bent over Barneveld and River Ridge. Matye and Berendes added wins on the mound for the Miner-Zephyrs.
    Belmont opened the new week by falling to Highland, 15-1, in a SRW clash at Belmont on Monday, May 8.
    Shullsburg/Benton will play Black Hawk in a Six Rivers’ crossover doubleheader at the Woodside Sports Complex in Mauston on Friday, May 12, at 4:30 p.m.; and has key Six Rivers games against Pecatonica at home on Monday, May 15, at 4:30 p.m. and at Highland on Tuesday, May 16, at 5 p.m.
    Belmont hosts Pecatonica in a Six Rivers doubleheader on Friday, May 12, at 4:30 p.m., and plays at Cassville on Tuesday, May 16, at 5 p.m.
