Argyle bests Black Hawk in a Six Rivers East clash

SOUTH WAYNE – Argyle bounced back from an opening set loss to take three straight sets from Black Hawk to earn a key 3-1 Six Rivers East victory in a match played at BHHS on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
    The Orioles (3-0 SRE) remain unbeaten in the SRE along with Barneveld (4-0), who has matches against both Black Hawk (9-4-1 overall, 3-1) and Argyle this week.
    Ashley Bruehlman pounded down a match-high 25 kills and added 15 digs and three aces for the Orioles, while Jena Saalsaa chipped in with 18 kills, 15 digs, six aces and two blocks for the guests.
    The Warriors jumped out early with a 25-18 decision over the Orioles in set one, but Argyle answered right back with a 25-10 win in set two to even the match.
    The Orioles outlasted Black Hawk, 27-25, in set three to gain control of the match, and then they put it away with a 25-11 win in set four.
    Freshman Bailey Butler tallied 13 kills to lead the Warriors. Hannah Herbst handed out 16 assists, while Sydney Delzer led the team with three blocks and Savanna Burmeister served up a team-high three aces.
    Black Hawk bounced back on Thursday to sweep the host Pecatonica Vikings, 25-16, 25-23 and 25-14, in a SRE affair.
    Sophomore Hannah Butler downed 12 kills to lead the Warriors, while B. Butler notched 10 kills in the match.
    Herbst led the team with 15 assists and four digs. Burmeister tallied eight assists and three aces, and Delzer added three blocks and two aces.
    Finally, at Lancaster, on Saturday, Sept. 9, the Lady Warriors went 4-1 on the day to finish second overall at the 2017 Lancaster Invitational.
    Black Hawk swept matches with Kickapoo, 25-10 and 25-14, Lancaster, 25-19 and 25-18, and Lancaster’s varsity reserve, 25-16 and 25-12, and then earned a split over Viroqua, 26-24, 18-25 and 16-14, to account for their four wins on the day.
    In what turned out to be the championship match, Potosi swept the Warriors, 25-17 and 25-19, en route to a perfect 5-0 finish at the tournament. The Chieftains did not drop a set the entire day.
    Herbst commanded the offense with her team-high 32 assists, and she added three digs and three aces for the Warriors.
    B. Butler registered 27 kills and H. Butler followed with 25 kills, while Delzer tallied 10 kills, seven blocks and three aces and Burmeister handed out 15 assists and served up four aces.
     Black Hawk hosts Albany on Tuesday, Sept. 19, in a SRE match.
