Black Hawk rallies to beat Shullsburg/Benton

SHULLSBURG/BENTON third baseman Madalyn Scott (#19) tagged out Black Hawks Jordyn Delzer on a close play at the base in Thursdays Six Rivers softball game.

    SOUTH WAYNE – Black Hawk’s Abby Baumgartner and Sammy Lovelace each doubled and scored in the five-run fifth inning to lift the Lady Warriors over Shullsburg/Benton, 8-2, in a Six Rivers Conference softball game on Thursday, April 28.
    The Warriors (7-4 overall, 5-3 SRC) scored twice in the bottom of the fourth to erase a 2-0 deficit, and then plated five runs in the fifth to pull ahead of the Miner-Zephyrs (3-9, 2-7) to stay. Hannah Herbst singled and came around to score on a wild pitch to put the hosts ahead for good, and they tacked on four more insurance run in the frame to open up a 7-2 advantage.
    Rachel Ritschard (7-4) picked up the win, allowing two runs- one earned- on six hits and a walk and she struck out 10 batters.
    At the plate, Baumgartner went 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored, and Herbst went 2-for-4 with a run scored in the game. Tatum Jackson added a double and two runs scored for the Warriors.
    Lily Carver went 2-for-3 with a triple and Jordan Busch had a double to lead Shulls/Ben. Lexi Fladseth also had two hits for the guests.
    After opening the week with a 10-0 win over Argyle on Monday, Ritschard continued to roll in the circle on Tuesday, April 28, tossing a two-hit shutout and striking out seven batters en route to a 10-0 win over Monticello.
    Brooke Moore banged out three hits in four at-bats with a triple, two runs scored and a RBI. Herbst was 2-for-5 with a double, two runs and two RBI, while Jordyn Delzer and Jackson each went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Delzer had a double and scored a run for the Warriors.
    Shulls/Bent also dropped a heartbreaker to Southwestern in Hazel Green on Tuesday, April 26, after the Wildcats erased an early 10-0 Miner-Zephyr lead by scoring seven unanswered runs over the final four innings to rally for a 14-13 non-conference win.
    At Shullsburg, on Monday, May 2, Potosi exploded for 14 runs in the fourth inning to pull away for a 24-4 win over the Miner-Zephyrs.
     Black Hawk plays at River Ridge/Cassville in Patch Grove on Friday, May 6; at Pecatonica on Monday, May 9; and at home against Argyle on Tuesday, May 10. All three games are scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
    Shullsburg/Benton hosts Juda/Albany (4:30 p.m.) on Thursday, May 5, and Highland (5 p.m.) on Tuesday, May 10, at Badger Park. They also have a SRW make-up game at Potosi on Friday, May 6 (4:30 p.m.) and a SRW game at River Ridge/Cassville in Cassville (5 p.m.) on Monday, May 9.
