BLACK HAWK freshman pitcher Hannah Butler recorded a no-hitter against Monticello on Monday, May 8, while leading the Warriors to a 9-1 victory.

SOUTH WAYNE — Freshman pitcher Hannah Butler tossed a no-hitter on Monday night while leading the Black Hawk Warriors to a 9-1 victory over the visiting Monticello Ponies in a Six Rivers East softball game in South Wayne.
Butler (7-9) yielded one unearned run without allowing a hit as the Lady Warriors evened their Six Rivers’ record to 5-5 and improved to 8-10 overall on the season. She struck out seven batters and issued five walks in the game.
“Butler pitched a great game. She started the fourth off with two walks. I called time and settled her down and got her mind off of it and she struck the next three batters out. She’s doing a great job for just a freshman. The mental toughness will come with a little more age,” said Black Hawk head coach Jim Baumgartner.
Catcher Jordyn Delzer cleared the bases with a three-run double in the bottom of the first inning to put the Warriors ahead to stay.
Kaitlynn Fey had a pinch hit, RBI-double during the Warriors’ six-run out burst in the third inning that gave Butler a comfortable eight-run cushion. Cheyenne Stewart, Hannah Herbst and Sammy Lovelace each added a RBI-single in the third inning.
Herbst and Stewart each had two hits with a RBI and a run scored in the game.
Last week, the Warriors dropped a pair of hard-fought Six Rivers’ contests, falling to Barneveld, 6-4, on Tuesday, May 2, and to Potosi, 9-3, at PHS on Friday, May 5.
Delzer doubled and scored twice in Tuesday’s game, which was moved from South Wayne to Barneveld due to field conditions.
Butler and Natalie Leuzinger each had two hits at Potosi on Friday.
Black Hawk will face Benton/Shullsburg at Benton’s Swift Park on Thursday, May 11, and will meet Argyle on Tuesday, May 16. Both games are set to start at 5 p.m.
