CAZENOVIA – Black Hawk’s Dakota Meier posted a pair of pins and a major decision on the way to a runner-up finish in the 138-pound weight class at the 2012 Weston-Ithaca Scramble held at Weston High School on Saturday, Jan. 14.
Meier (21-6) opened his day by pinning Iowa-Grant’s Murilo Luques in 1:40 and followed with an 11-3 major decision over Boscobel’s Logan Jones to advance to the championship round at 138-pounds at the scramble.
The Warrior sophomore pinned Richland Center’s Jon Bechtel in 1:16 in the quarterfinals and posted an 8-7 decision over Cashton’s Brandon Geier to move to the finals, but he had to settle for a second-place finish after getting pinned by La Crosse Logan’s Stefan Jobe in 3:37 in the championship match.
The Warriors placed 11th as a team at the talent-filled 14-team tournament after racking up 52 team points on the day. Iowa-Grant rolled to the team title with 287.5 points, followed by Cashton (246.5) and Fort Atkinson (227) in the top three.
Sophomore Jared Pickett (18-11) went 2-3 with a major decision en route to an eighth-place finish at 113, while freshman Colin Novak (21-7) notched a 3-2 record with a pair of pins to place ninth at 106 for the Warriors.
Beau Holland at 120 and Crystal Novak at 132 each went 1-4 with a pin on their way to an eighth-place finish for the Warriors.
Black Hawk heads to Blanchardville for a Six Rivers Conference dual meet against Pecatonica/Argyle on Thursday, Jan. 19.
