Potosi softball picks up two wins

Potosi pitcher Jadyn Noonan gave up four hits in a 10-0 shutout victory over visiting Benton/Shullsburg last Tuesday night. Noonan struck out five batters in the win and did not walk any.

POTOSI — The Potosi varsity softball team picked up two conference wins over the past week, beating Shullsburg/Benton last Tuesday night, and then Argyle this past Monday evening.

Coach Bud Johnson’s squad went into this past Tuesday night’s double header with River Ridge/Cassville and Belmont with a Six Rivers West conference record of 5-7 and an overall mark of 9-12.

In last Tuesday night’s 10-0 victory over visiting Shullsburg/Benton, the Chieftains used five hits and five of their opponent’s errors to score 10 runs in just four innings.

After knocking in two runs in the first inning and then three in the second, Potosi scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth to secure the victory.

Kate Nusbaum was the team’s only multiple hitter with two hits and one RBI, while Hannah Udelhoven, Brooke McKillip and Sophie Langkamp each had an RBI.

In the pitching circle, Jadyn Noonan gave up no runs off four hits, while striking out five batters and walking none.

This past Monday evening, the Chieftains put together a 9-3 victory over visiting Argyle, as Hannah Udelhoven had two of her team’s six hits.

The Chieftains put together a five-run rally in the bottom of the third inning, then sealed the deal with three more runs in the sixth after getting one in the fourth.

Coming away with two RBIs each were Brooke McKillip and Hannah Nusbaum, while   Sophie Langkamp had a three-run triple in the third inning to highlight the big inning.

In the circle, Noonan surrendered just three earned runs off seven hits, while striking out five batters and walking one.

Also in conference action last Thursday night, the Chieftains took one on the chin against host Juda to the tune of 14-1.

Potosi was held to just two hits in the game, scoring one run in the top of the first inning. Juda managed 10 runs off Noonan, scoring six runs in the bottom of the third and then eight in the fourth.

On the following Friday night, Wauzeka came to town and left with a 17-3 non-conference victory, despite the Chieftains having nine hits to the Hornet’s eight.

The big stat for the Chieftains was the fact that they committed nine errors in the loss.

Langkamp, Noonan and Kalynn Vosberg each finished the game with two hits, while Ally Siegert gave up five earned runs off eight hits, while striking out six batters and walking five.

Following this past Tuesday night’s double header, the Chieftains will travel to Prairie du Chien this Thursday night, then to Fennimore on Friday.
