SHULLSBURG – The offense for Shullsburg-Benton got better and better as the week went on, but the Miner-Zephyrs couldn’t catch up to their opponents as they dropped three straight games on the diamond to slip to 1-7 overall on the season and 1-4 in Six Rivers Conference play.
Highland bested the Miner-Zephyrs, 11-0, in five innings at Badger Park on Tuesday, April 24, and then the defending WIAA Division 4 state champion Juda/Albany Panthers knocked off the Shulls-Ben squad, 14-1, in five innings back at home on Thursday, April 26.
Finally, at home once again on Friday, April 27, the Miner-Zephyrs bashed out 13 hits and scored eight runs against non-conference foe East Dubuque, but the visiting Warriors got 21 hits and 19 runs of their own to sink the hosts by a score of 19-8.
Brianna Jones, Lydia Jones and Maggie Gleason all had three hits with a double in Friday’s game. B. Jones drove in three runs and scored twice, while L. Jones knocked in two runs and Gleason scored twice.
Grace Morrissey went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles with a RBI and a run for the co-op, and Kindle Cook doubled and drove in two runs in the game
