BOSCOBEL - The Boscobel varsity football team triumphed over SWAL rival Southwestern on a wet Friday night for their first conference win of the season.
The game started out looking evenly matched, with Boscobel scoring their first touchdown on a 17-yard run from Cauy Isaacson, which shortly followed an impressive 57-yard run by senior Preston Baker to set things up. The Wildcats were able to push back, earning their conversion to jump ahead, 7-6, before the two teams held each other at a standstill through the rest of the first quarter.
Boscobel hit the second half with determination and brought in two more touchdowns, earning conversion points on each to head into the half with a lead of 20-7.
Junior Brandon Mindham scored on a long 48-yard run on a toss play, showing his speed on the edge. Baker scored on a pair of touchdowns, as well.
Rallying on the return, the third quarter was a defensive game, with neither side scoring. Boscobel was able to break through in the fourth, getting another touchdown to win the game, 26-7.
Senior Gavin Bell and sophomore Caden Buss had outstanding games defensively, once again.
“We were able to play great team football on Friday night, said Coach Joey Martin. Our hard work of “perfect ball security” paid off as we were able to control the football for most of the night. We were also able to move some of the guys around to better fit some positions and make us a little deeper, allowing us to substitute more frequently to keep us more fresh.”
“We are fighting a few injuries and illness right now, but we are very thankful and very hopeful for our Athletic Trainer, Penny Grassel, for everything that she does to help our student-athletes return as quickly as they do,” the coach continued.
The Bulldogs travel to face the Fennimore Golden Eagles on Friday. Play gets underway at 7 p.m.
