Bussan leads Southwestern/Cuba City/Benton to SWC-SWAL girls golf title.

Southwestern/Cuba City/Benton's Bailee Bussan shot a 77 to win medalist honors and lead her team to the conference title at last Wednesday's SWC-SWAL conference meet. Bailee was also named the 2017 SWC-SWAL MVP after winning the season-long individual points championship. She was joined on the all-conference first team by (from left) Lancaster junior Lindsay Wolf, Prairie du Chien's Gabby Ritchie and Mackenzie Maguire and Darlington's Kennedy Wagner.

CUBA CITY – After shooting a respectable 87 and finishing second at last year’s conference meet, Bailee Bussan of Southwestern/Cuba City/Benton concluded the conference portion of her senior season by shooting a 77 last Wednesday afternoon and finishing 12 strokes ahead of her closest competitor.

The Southwestern/Cuba City/Benton girls’ golf team got together with Lancaster, Prairie du Chien and Darlington at the Cole Acres Golf Course in Cuba City last Wednesday afternoon for the SWC-SWAL Conference Meet, where Bussan took medalist honors with an 18-hole score of 77.

The senior sensation followed up an impressive round of 36 on the first nine holes with a 41 on the final nine, finishing 12 strokes ahead of runner-up Lindsay Wolf of Lancaster, who shot an 89.

Bussan, who finished the regular season as the top individual among her conference competitors, earned SWC-SWAL MVP honors and first-team all-conference honors.

Teammates Kate Wright shot a 104, Shelby Soja a 111, Delaney Ryan a 111 and Haley Wright a 119, as coach Jim McQuade’s squad took top team honors with a score of 403.

Lancaster finished six strokes behind with a team score of 409, while Prairie du Chien was third (418) and Darlington fourth (436).

The Southwestern/Cuba City/Benton golf team will next participate in the Division 2 Jefferson Regional played this Thursday morning at Koshkonong Mounds Golf Course beginning at 9 a.m.

The top four teams from the Jefferson Regional will qualify for next week’s Edgewood Sectional, as will the top four individuals who are not members of a qualifying team. 

From there, the first two teams will advance to the WIAA State Meet on Oct. 9-10 at University Ridge, as well as the top three individuals who are not members of a qualifying team.
