Jenks 13th place leads IG at Darlington

     DARLINGTON — Seniors Jordan Jenks and Ethan McCracken led the Iowa–Grant/Highland boys’ cross country team to a seventh place finish at the 22-team Darlington Invitational.
     Jenks, who finished second a week earlier at the Cashton Invitational, placed 13th out of 99 varsity runners with a time of 18:06. McCracken finished 33rd overall at 19:01. Sophomore William McLeer placed 50th (19:42.6).
     Junior Angela Melby led I–G girls with a 48th place finish (19:08.5). Only four Panthers ran in Saturday’s race so the team was incomplete.

Momot, Iselin lead Platteville boys at Verona
     The Platteville cross country teams opened the 2014 season Saturday at the 24-team Verona Invitational.
Led by individual medalists Vince Momot and Dan Iselin, the Hillmen boys finished ninth overall out of 24 teams and second out of seven teams in Division 3, behind only Mauston.
     Momot, a junior, placed eighth overall with a time of 16:39, while Iselin, a junior, finished 25th overall in 17:14.
The top 25 runners in both the boys’ and girls’ races earned medals.
     Senior Holly Kasper set a new Platteville girls’ cross country record at the new 5,000-meter distance for girls, with a time of 21:54. She finished 44th overall as the Platteville girls placed 21st overall and seventh in D3.
     “I was very pleased with the way the teams ran,”said Platteville head coach Rob Serres. “We needed to get our feet wet, and see where we were at.  I wanted the kids to run conservatively, but still competitively.”
