Mathews finishes first at Golden Eagle Relays

Shale Meyer begins an uphill ascent during Saturday's Fennimore Relays.

MUSCODA - Riverdale varsity cross country competed against thirteen other teams in Fennimore on Saturday. 

Brian Mathews ran the 5k course in 17:17, with a burst in the last stretch to take the lead and the win.  Serhii Rohynskyy also ran an impressive race, finishing with a time of 22:17, placing him as Riverdale’s third fastest runner of the day, behind Dawson Mueller’s 21.44 finish. 

In the girl’s race, Leah Underwood represented the Chieftains with a time of 29.22.

In the junior varsity division, Kenlee Mathews continues to run consistently for the girl’s team.  Max Krueger led the boys’ with Collin Tracy close behind.  Other finishers include Lucus Schneider and Alex Wirtz, in his first race of the season.

The next cross country action is Tuesday, October 4 in Boscobel at the Ryan Zimple Memorial Invitational. The races get underway at 4:15 p.m.
