Mathews medals at State

Brian Mathews ran well for Riverdale Cross Country last weekend competing in the state meet in Wisconsin Rapids.

The weather was cold and rainy, but that did not hinder Mathews as he flew through the course in a time of 17:04.  His performance put him in ninth place in Division 3 and on the podium for the first time at state.

Last year Mathews ran a 17:11 time and placed 25th.  His seven-second improvement is impressive considering the conditions.

Multiple runners fell on the slick course, slowing times and keeping other runners cautious of their footing.  The top five runners in Division 3 were all seniors, meaning Mathews will be the fourth fastest returning runner next year.
