Serhii Rohynskyy, Brian Mathews, McKenzie Couey, and Jeffrey Anderson take a moment at the sectional races held at Fennimore last Saturday to smile for the camera. Congratulations to the Riverdale teams on a running season and best of luck to Mathews as he heads to state!

MUSCODA - Riverdale’s senior runner Brian Mathews took seventh place last Saturday, Oct. 22 in the sectional race at Fennimore with a time of 17: 36.  With his finish, he qualifies for the state meet next Saturday for the third year in a row.

The boys’ team placed 12th overall out of 20 teams, capping off successful year.

Mathews was followed by Dawson Mueller in 52nd place with a time of 19:57, Serhii Rohynskyy in 74th, Kyle Hanke in 77th, and Jeffrey Anderson in 88th.

The three through seven runners on the boys’ team ran as a group, pulling each other through the race.  This pack mentality was key to their success last year, and helped them again this year.

Both Rohynskyy and Hanke ran personal bests despite the meet being held at a challenging course.

The girls team also ran well, with Leah Underwood leading the way with a time of 26:29. McKenzie Couey came in at 27:12, and Kenlee Mathews finished her season with a 29:32.

Last year at the state meet Brian Mathews placed ninth with a time of 17:04, but this year will have to overcome injury to return to the podium.

Thank you to all of our friends, family, and fans for supporting our team this year.  We will see you all again next fall.
