PLATTEVILLE – Sophomore Tyson Miehe set a new course record with his best time ever to highlight an outstanding day for the Darlington Redbirds cross country teams at the 2011 Dick McKichan Invitational held on Saturday, Oct. 1.
    The varsity squads swept the small school team titles at the meet with the Redbirds running away with first with 30 points and the Lady Redbirds taking first with 44 points, while finishing first in the boys’ junior varsity race (30) and third in the girls’ JV race (70).
    “The guys showed their strength and depth by dominating both races. They are stepping it up and that is making a big difference for our team,” said Redbird coach Arnie Miehe. “(The girls) are running well as a team. We have to keep pulling each other along to make that last step to where we want to be.”
    Miehe finished first among all individuals in the boys’ 5,000-meter race with a personal-best time of 15:39 to lead the Redbirds. Senior Hannah Robiolio and junior Christa Wamsley placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 4,000-meter small school race in 15:57.
    Next up, Darlington will compete at the Wisconsin Rapids Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 8, starting at 10:30 a.m.
