Last week on Tuesday, Dec. 1, the Riverdale Boys Basketball team played Royall at home.

The visiting Panthers got off to a fast start, as the Chieftains fell into an 11 – 0 hole. The Chieftains were able to stiffen their defense and held Royall scoreless over the next six minutes. Getting a couple of three-point baskets from Elijah Cannon and two key buckets from Jeffery Anderson and Cody Sperry, the Riverdale boys were only down by nine heading into halftime.

The second half once again proved to be a better half offensively for the Chieftains as all eight players on the varsity roster saw themselves get into the scoring column. In the end though, it just wasn’t enough.

Royall outscored Riverdale by just a little during the second half, and therefore the Chieftains were unable to close the gap in order to pull out the victory.

“All of our players played exceptionally hard and saw success and/or made a key play during the course of the game,” said head coach Joe Randall.

The game ended with a final score of 45 – 27.

Leading in rebounding were Elijah Cannon with eight and Cody Sperry with six.

Ty Hougan led in steals with four.

Elijah Cannon led in scoring for the Chieftains with a total of eight points, followed by Cody Sperry with five, Jeffery Anderson with four, Dakota Fiebranz with four, and Ethan Haffner and Michael Schaefer with three each.
