Three wins, two losses for Lady Chieftains

MUSCODA - Riverdale jumped out to an early lead on Darlington and captured a 12-2 conference softball victory on Monday, April 18 at Darlington-Sieg Field.

Six runs in the first three innings allowed Riverdale to put the game away early. An RBI double by Amanda Meister during the first inning supplied the early offense for Riverdale. Tiara Thomas racked up three RBIs on two hits for Riverdale. She homered in the third inning and singled in the fifth inning.

Riverdale added five more runs in the top of the third. A single by Shay Louis ignited the offense, scoring Mackenzie Herreid. That was followed up by Thomas' three-run blast, scoring Meister and Louis. Riverdale increased its lead with six runs in the fifth.

The inning got off to a hot start when Emily Drone singled, plating Louis.

Meister had an impressive outing against Darlington's lineup. Meister held Darlington hitless over three innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out eight.

Leading hitters on the night were Amanda Meister 3x4 with two RBIs and a double, Tiara Thomas 2x3 with three RBIs and a homerun, and Emily Drone 2x3 with one RBI and a double. Mackenzie Herried and Shay Louis also each had an RBI and a double.  

At Cuba City

Riverdale wound up on the wrong side of a 6-0 score on April 19 at Cuba City, tasting defeat at the hands of Cubans.

While the Chieftains earned three hits against Cuba’s pitcher, the girls were unable to plate any runs in the game. The Chieftains committed four errors against a strong Cuba City defense that played an error-free game.

Macy Koch, Mackenzie Herreid, and Macey Klebesadel each had a hit on the night.

Vs. Fennimore

Riverdale beat Fennimore last Thursday, 14-4, at Riverdale High School in six innings.

Riverdale never trailed after scoring one run in the first on an RBI single by Meister. Riverdale pushed across two runs in both the second inning and the sixth. In the second, Riverdale scored on an RBI single by Grimm, plating Macey Klebesadel.

Riverdale scored five runs in the fourth on an RBI single by Shay Louis, a sacrifice fly by Emily Drone, an RBI single by Allie Grimm, and a two-run single by Macy Koch. The Chieftains piled on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Kaylee Krueger's single got things going, scoring Meister. That was followed up by Krueger's single, plating Meister.

Amanda Meister got a hit in each of her four at bats. She doubled in the fifth inning and singled in the first, fourth, and sixth innings.

Riverdale easily handled Fennimore pitching as seven hitters combined for 17 hits, 12 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

Meister got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. She allowed four runs over six innings. Meister struck out nine, walked three and gave up six hits.

Leading hitters on the night were Macy Koch 2x3 with two RBIs, Amanda Meister 4x4 with 2 RBIs and a double, Shay Louis 4x5 with three RBIs and a double, and Allie Grimm 4x4 with three RBIs and a double.

At Wauzeka

Riverdale beat Wauzeka-Steuben 13-0 Friday, behind both the bat and the arm of Amanda Meister. Riverdale's Meister was perfect at the dish, going 3-3. She singled in the first and third innings and doubled in the fourth inning.

Meister looked sharp in the circle. She allowed no hits, walked one and struck out 10 during her four innings of work.

Riverdale beat Wauzeka-Steuben thanks to nine hits. Riverdale scored five runs in the sixth on Riverdale scored in the sixth on an RBI single by Allie Grimm, a wild pitch, a walk by Mackenzie Herreid, a walk by Amber Putz, and a groundout by Kaylee Krueger.

Leading hitters on Friday were Mackenzie Herried 2x4 with an RBI, Amanda Meister 3x3 with two RBIs and a double, and Allie Grimm 2x3 with an RBI.

Vs. Cuba City

Riverdale lost despite Amanda Meister's spectacular day from both the mound and the plate. Meister got on base three times in the game for Riverdale. She also drove in one runner. She singled in the first and fifth innings.

Cuba City couldn't get anything going as long as Meister was pitching. Cuba City managed just one hit off of Meister, who allowed no earned runs, walked three and struck out eight during her seven innings of work.

Emily Wiederholt got the win for Cuba City. She allowed one run over seven innings. Wiederholt struck out 11, walked one and gave up eight hits.

Looking ahead

The Lady Chieftains are now 2-5 in conference play and 6-5 overall.

The girls will travel to Mineral Point on Thursday of this week to face the Pointers for the first time this season. They then host Iowa-Grant on Monday.

Both games begin at 5 p.m.
