Last Tuesday's Southwest Wisconsin Activities League volleyball match between Southwestern and host Fennimore was about as even as you're going to see.
Both teams entered the contest with identical conference records of 5-0, so both teams knew exactly what was at stake.
When the smoke had cleared and five games had been played, it was the Golden Eagles who remained perfect with a 3-2 victory over the Wildcats.
The two teams took turns winning in the first four games, Southwestern claiming victories of 26-24 and 25-20 in games one and three.
Fennimore won games two and four by scores of 25-20 and 25-20, sending the match into a fifth and final game.
In a fight to get to 15 first, Fennimore squeaked out a 15-13 victory, improving to 6-0 in league play, and taking control of the league's top spot.
Katelyn Hoppman and Katie Droeszler each had sensational efforts for Southwestern, as Hoppman finished with 36 kills and five blocks.
Droeszler concluded the night with 28 digs and six ace serves, while Molly Wubben dished out a team-high 48 assists.
It took just two days for the Wildcats to get back to their winning ways, as they defeated visiting Mineral Point the following Thursday night, 3-1.
In that match, Hoppman led the team with 14 kills and three blocks, while Alyssa Iserman finished with 11 kills.
Miranda Kruser had a team-high six digs, while Jordan Martin and Rachel Haugen each had one ace. Wubben finished the night with a team-high 20 assists.
Coach Jane Wills squad now has a conference record of 6-1 and an overall mark of 16-1.
