Wrestlers defeat Boscobel

Friday night, Jan. 6, was a great night for wrestling at Riverdale High School. The wrestling program welcomed back all alumni, inducted Don Elliott into the Hall of Fame, and recognized the 1997 state championship team.

The current Riverdale wrestlers came through to energize the crowd winning six of the seven matches wrestled en route to a 60-6 victory over Boscobel.

Shale Meyer started the night out, controlling the whole match, to win 6-1 at 120-pounds. Brian Mathews followed with 7-0 victory.

Tyler Hach kept the energy going with a great match. After trailing 2-1 early, Tyler kept the pressure on his opponent, turning the tables and pulling out a 6-3 win. At 160-pounds Brian Bieri fought hard, but lost by pin. Bradon Roen scored a first period pin to increase the Chieftain lead to 33-6.

On a special night for the Elliott family, Kenny Elliott brought the Chieftain fans to their feet with a last second takedown to pull out a 7-5 victory. Sean Deglow finished the match in his varsity debut with a quick pin at heavyweight.
