The WIAA volleyball playoffs opened Tuesday night and a number of area teams were in action. Southwest Wisconsin Conference tri-champs Richland Center and Platteville all advanced to Thursday's regional semifinals.

   Top-seeded Richland Center had a first-round bye in Regional A of the Division Richland Center sectional and will now host No. 4 Wisconsin Dells Thursday at 7 p.m.

   Junior Julia Lawinger had 18 kills and three blocks as Platteville, the No. 2 seed in the B regional of the Richland Center sectional, swept Beloit Turner, 25-9, 25-5, 25-15. The Hillmen will now host No. 3 Mt. Horeb Thursday night.

   Emily Martin floored 8 kills and Kate Noble added 19 assists and four aces as No 3. Lancaster swept No. 6 Riverdale in a Divison 3 regional match. The Arrows will now travel to SWAL co-champion Fennimore Thursday. The second-seeded Eagles got nine kills and nine blocks from senior Morgan Gunderson in a  25-13, 25-16, 25-16 sweep of New Glarus.

   Katelyn Hoppman slammed 18 kills as SWAL co-champ Southwestern (No. 2 seed in D3 Deerfield sectional) swept Darlington to also advance in Division 3.

   Six Rivers West co-champs River Ridge and Potosi also moved on to the second round of the Division 4 regionals. Listed below are Tuesday's regional quarterfinal results, followed by Thurday's regional semifinal matchups. The regional finals will be held on Saturday.
