PLATTEVILLE — A pair of Hillmen cross country records fell Saturday at the 48th annual Dick McKichan Platteville Invitational at UW–Platteville’s Veterans Memorial Park.

Platteville senior Vince Momot outdueled some of the best runners in this part of the state, beating all of them to win the boys’ varsity race. He finished first out of 162 runners and in the process set a new Platteville course record with a winning time of 16:19.5. Momot beat runner-up Christopher Pahnke (16:23.8) of McFarland by more than four seconds.

“For Vince to win this meet is big,” said Platteville head coach Rob Serres. “There are really some great runners out there, and he went out and gave a fantastic effort for the win, and for a new PHS course record. We are so proud.”

Momot led the Platteville boys to a third-place team finish in the large school division, but he had plenty of help. Junior Dan Iselin finished seventh overall at 17:02 to earn a top-10 medal. Freshman Jace Serres finished 15th overall at 17:27, senior Blake Julius placed 40th at 18:14 and senior Tom Lambert was 56th at 18:40 to round out the Hillmen team score. Both Serres and Julius earned ribbons for top-40 finishes.

The Platteville boys finished third with 85 points, behind champion McFarland (43) and runner-up Madison Edgewood (74).

“We are a tough, tough team, one of the best we have had,” added Serres. “But, we are running up against some tough teams as well. We have more in us, and we have a mission to be better, and we will be.”

Junior Brelynn Updike set the other Platteville course record by finishing 15th overall out of 138 runners in the girls’ varsity race with a time of 21:02.3.

Belleville junior Noelle Marie blew away the field to win the girls’ individual title with a winning time of 19:04.7, nearly half a minute better than runner-up Brooke Lonigro  (19:30.0) of McFarland.

Updike led the Platteville girls to a seventh-place finish in the large schools division with 135 points.  Sophomore Morgan Wehnke (24th, 21:35) and freshman Julia Kasper (40th, 21:59) joined Updike as ribbon winners with top-40 finishes.

McFarland easily won the girls’ large schools team title over runner-up Dodgeville/Mineral Point 47–106.
