Senior Ben Bahr placed 73rd in Saturdays D2 state championship race.

WISCONSIN RAPIDS — One of the strongest boys cross country team in Platteville history closed out a banner season Saturday with a sixth-place team finish at the WIAA Division 2 state championships.
Led by Top 20 finishes from seniors Cullen Bryla (16th) and sophomore Vince Momot (19th) Platteville scored 168 points finishing behind only champion Wisconsin Lutheran (63), runner-up Monroe (95), Shorewood (103), Freedom (109) and Little Chute (120) in the 16-team field.
Bryla finished 16th individually in a field of 150 runners, covering the 5,000-meter boys’ course at the Ridges Golf Course in a time of 16:44.56. Momot was close behind placing 19th at 16:48.69.
Senior Ben Bahr, Platteville’s third runner, finished 73rd at 17:43.66, while junior Max Frommelt (86th, 17:51.24), freshman Dan Iselin (94th, 18:02.93), junior Colton Henry (138th, 18:58.01) and junior Mike Donovan (143rd, 19:12.76) rounded out Platteville’s seven-man lineup.
“The boys had a great season,” said Hillmen coach Rob Serres. “They were one of the stronger teams in the history of the school. I was very pleased with the way these guys progressed throughout the season. They had a hunger for greatness, and put in the work to make that dream come true. You could see that hunger emerge right after the Platteville Invite where they placed third to both Monroe and Madison Edgewood who we knew were in our Sectional.”
After beating both Monroe and Edgewood at the Platteville Invite, the Hillmen boys narrowed their focus and went on to dominate — and win — both the Albany Invitational and the SWC Championship meet.”
According to coach Serres, the team then ran one of the finest races by any PHS squad to place second as a team at the Monroe Sectional, upsetting Edgewood in dramatic fashion to earn a trip to state.
“I was proud of all of our kids and their finishes,” said Serres. “They ran hard and gave their best efforts, and that is all you can ever ask for out of any athlete.”
Monroe senior Ethan Moehn won the boys’ D2 title in 15:58.93, holding off Shorewood’s Charlie Stahl (16:07.87).
Shorewood sophomore Morgan Florsheim (14:29.10) won the girls’ D2 title finishing nearly 20 seconds ahead of runner-up Amy Davis of Edgewood (14:47.14).
Though Davis won the ultimate prize as her Crusaders won the girls’ team title.
