The Platteville track and field teams wrapped up the indoor portion of its season this past Saturday.
The Platteville girls varsity scored 78.5 points to finish second out of 15 teams at Saturday’s Benton/Scales Mound/Shullsburg Indoor Invitational at UW–Platteville.

Senior Faye Bailie won the high jump (5–2), while fellow senior Rachel Emendorfer won the 400 (1:04.16) to lead the Hillmen effort.

The Platteville boys varsity reserve scored 48 points to finish sixth at the meet.

Freshman Austin Wein won the 55-meter low hurdles (9.62) and finished second in the long jump (16–10).

“It was great to have such a nice finish out of our girls team,” said Platteville head coach Rob Serres. “At this point in the season, we are simply looking to see what kind of condition we are in and to start planting seeds of determination and tenacity.  To place second in a strong field of teams is a great bonus to what we are looking for.”

The Platteville boys varsity team traveled to Madison on Saturday to take part in the boys only Madison West Indoor Invitational. The Hillmen scored 25 points to place 10th out of 17 teams in Class B.

Senior Vince Momot placed third out of 17 runners in the 1,600 with a time of 4:39.88 and finished fifth in the pole vault by clearing 12 feet. Junior Dan Iselin finished third out of 16 runners in the 800 with a time of 2:06.6.

“I was very happy with how competitive our boys were,” added Serres.

“The coaching staff was very pleased with the progress of our teams. The kids are listening and putting into practice all of what we have been giving to them. Each week we rate the week for hard work, effort, and progression. We have had four great weeks. I would like to add that our seniors and upperclassmen are doing a great job of prepping our young athletes on the traditions of Hillmen track and field.”
