PLATTEVILLE — The Platteville/Lancaster girls soccer team won a third straight Southwest Wisconsin Conference championship with a pair of shutout victories last week.

Senior Sami Brookens scored three goals (her second hat trick of the season) and assisted on a fourth goal to lead the Hillmen to a 5–0 Senior Night victory over visiting Richland Center on Tuesday afternoon.

Brookens, who now has a team-high 18 goals on the season and 81 goals in her career, moved into third place on the all-time Platteville/Lancaster goals scored list behind sisters Brianna Murphy (137) and Caitlin Murphy (116).

Freshman Courtney Budden began the scoring on a feed from Brookens in the 13th minute. Brookens then scored in the 18th and 35th minutes and senior Jenna Vogel scored on a penalty kick in the 36th minute.

The Hillmen (10–6–3, 9–0–1 SWC) clinched the outright conference title with a 2–0 shutout win at Prairie du Chien on Thursday.

Brookens scored early in the second half to snap a scoreless tie, then junior Rachel Bailie added an insurance goal with 17 minutes left.

“We are over the moon to have won the SWC again this year,” said Hillmen head coach Brandon Pink. “This was one of the goals we set for ourselves at the beginning of the season, so in that sense it feels like mission accomplished.  We saw a number of SWC teams improve from last season, and we had some big challenges.

The 10th-seeded Hillmen will travel to #7 McFarland to begin the WIAA Division 3 playoffs Thursday at 5 p.m. The winner advances to Saturday’s regional final to face either #2 Sugar River or #15 Wautoma/Faith Christian.
