MADISON - The Platteville/Lancaster 400-yard freestyle relay team of Ryan Heberlein, Brenden Polkinghorn, Nicholas Volkmann, and Jake Adams finished the 2011-12 boys’ swimming season at the WIAA Division 2 State Championships in Madison last Friday night.
The quartet shaved four seconds off their season-best time to finish 12th in 3:27.73.
Their time ranks as the second best in the 400 free relay in the history of the Hillmen swimming program.
Adams was the only senior on the relay. Heberlein and Volkman, both juniors, Polkinghorn, a sophomore, as well as alternate junior Jake Fulton will all return next year making the Hillmen 400-yard relay a favorite to return to state.
As a team Platteville/Lancaster finished 25th with 10 points. McFarland won the D2 title with 325 points, well ahead of runner-up Cedarburg’s 249.5.
“I’m very happy with how the guys did. I really couldn’t have asked for more from them,” explained Platteville/Lancaster coach Tom Caccia.
The Hillmen will conclude their season with their Awards Reception on February 28th.
