Hillmen top Wildcats in SWC gymnastics dual

HAZEL GREEN — The Platteville/Belmont/Lancaster gymnastics team outscored the Southwestern co-op squad in every discipline to earn a 126.525 to 113.7 victory in a Southwest Wisconsin Conference dual meet held at Southwestern High School on Monday, Jan. 13.

Junior Brooklyn VanNatta finished first overall in the floor exercise (9.075) and the vault (8.3) on her way to a third-place finish in the all-around with a score of 31.325 for the Hillmen. 

Junior Katrina Stastny won the uneven bars (8.025) and sophomore Hailey Jentz tied for first on the balance beam (7.75), while freshmen MacKenzie Champion led the Hillmen by placing second overall in the all-around at 31.675 after finishing in the top four in each event with three thirds and a fourth.

Jentz placed fourth in the all-around at 30.875 and Stastny was fifth at 30.675.

Wildcats' senior Cilla Downs claimed the all-around title for the hosts with a score of 32.175 after tying Jentz for first on the beam (7.75) and posting seconds on the vault (8.1) and bars (7.95) and a third on the floor (8.375).

Freshman Quintessa Haesler placed second on the floor (8.5) on her way to a sixth-place finish in the all-around (28.75) for the Wildcats, who were without junior Hannah Husemann.

Freshman Lilee McGowan tied Haesler for sixth on the vault (7.7), while freshman Ella Barth was seventh in the all-around (26.25) and sophomore Jenna Barth was eighth (25.675) on the night.

The Wildcats have a SWC dual match at Prairie du Chien on Monday, Jan. 20, at 6 p.m.

The Hillmen are off until Saturday, Jan. 25, when they will participate in the Southwestern Invitational at Southwestern High School in Hazel Green, starting at 9:45 a.m.
