     The tradition continues.
When the WIAA Division 2 State Track and Field Championships begins next Friday afternoon at Veterans’ Memorial Field Sports Complex on the campus of UW–La Crosse, Platteville High School will once again be well represented.
The Hillmen qualified 13 events for this weekend’s state meet with numerous standout performances at last Thursday’s WIAA D2 Baraboo Sectional.
In fact the Platteville boys were so good, they scored 72.33 points and won the team sectional title, while earning eight state bids.
Senior Rhett Weber won the shot put (54–8) and finished third in the discus (150–7).
Senior Alex Schlueter finished second in the pole vault with a jump of 13 feet.
Senior Brad Saunders placed fourth in the 400 (:50.70), as did senior Matt Bailie in the triple jump (42–31/2).

Belmont’s Kamps, Adams on to state

Even a torrential downpour and a two-hour weather delay couldn’t prevent Belmont seniors Kailee Kamps and Amanda Adams from achieving their goals.
Kamps and Adams were two of the eight Belmont Braves that competed at last Thursday’s WIAA Division 3 Bangor Sectional, but the only ones to advance to state.
Kamps, who finished second at state in both the shot put and discus last year, will be competing in both again this weekend. She won both events on Thursday.
She won the shot put with a toss of 42 feet 11/2 inches, while winning the discus with a throw of 132–2.
This will be Kamps’ third straight trip to state.
The University of Minnesota-bound senior won the 2010 Division 3 state title in the discus and finished fourth in the shot that year as a sophomore.
While Kamps has plenty of experience at the state track meet, this will be Adams’ first appearance. She finished fourth in both the 300 hurdles (:48.90) and the triple jump (33–71/2) to qualify in both events.
Sophomore Jordyn Kamps just missed out on her first trip to state, finishing fifth in both the 100 (:13.21) and 200 (:27.54).
Junior Brandon Wedig placed sixth in the triple jump (41–41/4) as did freshman Tucker Wedig in the shot put (43–81/2).
The WIAA State Track Meet will be held this Friday and Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium at UW–La Crosse.
Division 2 and 3 competition will begin Friday at 3 p.m.
