Platteville/Lancaster boys soccer team clinches SWC championship

Fellow junior Ryan Roling scored the co-op’s other goal as the Hillmen extended their winning streak to seven straight matches.

With the win, Platteville/Lancaster improved to 11–4–1 overall and 9–0–1 in the Southwest Wisconsin Conference and clinched the program’s third straight SWC title under fourth-year head coach Brandon Pink.

Last Tuesday, Platteville/Lancaster defeated visiting River Valley 5–2 to run its winning streak to six matches.

Lancaster junior Jonathon Murphy scored a pair of goals to lead the Hillmen to victory.

Xiong, Roling and junior Logan Weaver also scored goals in the victory.

Platteville/Lancaster’s winning streak began Tuesday, Sept. 15 with a 4–1 SWC win over Dodgeville/Mineral Point.

Ten days later — with a postponement in between — the Hillmen blanked visiting Richland Center, 2–0, in an SWC match played at UW–Platteville’s Pioneer Stadium on Friday, Sept. 25.

The following Monday, Pink’s club defeated Monroe in a non-conference match, 4–1.

The Hillmen and senior goal keeper Kevin Donovan then posted back-to-back 1–0 shutouts over visiting Dodgeville on Thursday, Oct. 1 and host Wisconsin Heights on Friday, Oct. 2 in a non-conference make-up game from Sept. 25.

Platteville/Lancaster traveled to River Valley on Monday and hosted Richland Center to Tuesday close out the regular season. Results were not available at press time.

The WIAA playoffs begin next Tuesday, Oct. 20. Platteville is a nine-team Division 3 regional with Belleville/New Glarus, Cambridge/Deerfield, Dodgeville/Mineral Point, Edgerton, Evansville, Jefferson, Monroe and Mount Horeb.
