Platteville/Lancaster girls' soccer team wins two more in SWC

Senior Cassie Hamer had a goal and an assist in Platteville/Lancasters 71 victory over Prairie du Chien last Tuesday.

      The Platteville/Lancaster girls’ soccer team earned two more victories in the Southwest Wisconsin Conference last week to remain atop the league standings.

     Last Tuesday the Hillmen (5–0–2 in the SWC) crushed visiting Prairie du Chien 7–1.

     Junior Maddie Knockel and senior Elaine Leonard each scored a pair of goals, while senior Cassie Hamer and sophomores Sami Brookens and Lauren Tholealso found the net for the Hillmen in the lop-sided victory.

     Brookens scored on a pass from Hamer in the 29th minute to break the scoreless tie and the Hillmen (6–7–2 overall) were off and running.

     Knockel scored unassisted early in the 36th minute to make it 2–0 and less than two minutes later Leonard added an unassisted goal.

     Prairie du Chien scored late in the 40th minute to make it 3–1 at intermission, but Knockel scored again in the 60th minute for Platteville/Lancaster.

     Hamer scored on a Heini Raivio assist in the 69th minute, Thole scored on a Knockel assist in the 84th and Leonard closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal 85 seconds later.

     The Platteville co-op outshot the visiting Blackhawks 35–3.

     Freshman Sami Knockel made two saves in net to record the win for Platteville/Lancaster.

     The Hillmen scored four second-half goals to pull away from host Dodgeville/Mineral Point for a 6–3 win Thursday afternoon.

     The win was Platteville/Lancaster’s fifth in their last seven matches. The Hillmen are 5–1–1 since April 28 after beginning the year 1–5–1.

     The host Dodgers scored twice in the 8th minute to take an early 2–0 lead, but Lancaster’s Lauren Smith scored on an assist from Madi Knockel in the 27th minute, then Knockel evened the match at 2–2 with a penalty kick at the 41:13 mark of the first half.

     Knockel scored again on an assist from Brookens 10 minutes into the second half.

     Dodgeville kicked the ball into their own goal at the 64:05 mark to give the Hillmen a 4–2 lead, then Thole scored unassisted less than two minutes later.

     Thole put the finishing touches on the comeback win with another goal at the 84:42 mark.

     Monday afternoon Platteville/Lancaster dropped a 12–2 non-conference decision to visiting Reedsburg.

     Cambrie Nanquin scored four goals in the win, including three in the first half as the Beavers overcame an early 2–1 deficit and lead 7–2 at the half. Olivia Douglas also had a hat trick for the winners.

     Thole and Brookens scored in the first 19 minutes of the match to give the Hillmen an early 2–1 lead, but Reedsburg scored the next 11 goals.

     The Hillmen will travel to River Valley on Thursday before hosting Richland Center on Tuesday.
