Senior Claire Tashner rounds second base after homering in Platteville's 154 win at Boscobel on Friday. Tashner also went 2-for-2 with a double and a homer in last week's 122 loss at River Valley.

SPRING GREEN — Platteville has been on a collision course with 10th-ranked River Valley since opening the season with a 26–0 victory over Galena on April.

The Southwest Wisconsin Conference front runners met for the first time last Tuesday, and the first battle went to the host Blackhawks.

River Valley rapped out 13 hits and won the game 12–2 in five innings, ending Platteville’s season-opening nine-game winning streak.

Platteville took a 1–0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI double by senior Sierra Brecke to score classmate Claire Tashner, who doubled earlier in the inning.

Tashner homered to right field in the top of the third inning to make it 2–1, but that was the last hit River Valley ace pitcher Kylie Hoffman would allow. Hoffman struck out six in five innings of work.

The Blackhawks (10–2, 5–0 SWC) scored four times in the bottom of the third to take a 5–2 lead and never looked back.

KD Hoyer (7–1) took the loss for Platteville, allowing eight earned runs on 10 hits in 32/3 innings. She struck out four and walked six.

“The key to River Valley’s win was how they continued to score every inning,” said Hillmen head coach Becca Lowe. “We scored right away in the beginning of the game and had trouble putting more runs on the board.”
Platteville bounced back with a 15–4 non-conference win at Boscobel on Friday.

Tashner, Brecke and Hoyer all homered in the rout as the Hillmen piled up 19 hits. Senior shortstop Lexi Budden went 4-for-4 with two RBIs. Mackenzie Chitwood went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.

Platteville returns to action Thursday against Lancaster and will host Cuba City in a non-conference game Friday before traveling to Fennimore on Saturday.
